I just realized I had this poem with me... This was for an assignment. The goal of this poem was to pick something in nature and give it an underlying/symbolic meaning about life. Encircled by a lifetime of butterflies, I marvel at their similarities and differences, But the wind begins to change, And they scatter in some intrinsic frenzy.
My sorrow, my pity, my fear all fly away, Dependence and youth flap their wings, Taking along those moments of absolute joy, And I watch my life fly by.
I stand, dazzled and empty, Watching more butterflies creep into sight, For I know it is not the end, Even as I watch the butterflies fly by.

Very nice. It's weird, butterflies keep popping up in random conversations, books, and class lessons...the play I was just in was called "I Never Saw Another Butterfly..." We talked about how butterflies fly in math, and we talked about butterfly symbolism in World Lit. And then I learned the word for butterfly in German...it's starting to freak me out a little, actually. o_0
Anywho, great poem; nice symbolism, and it flows very nicely.

Thanks much, guys. This is probably my favorite poem I've written out of all of the ones I've had to write for English recently. It was rather funny because we went outside for class to find something inspiring... but all I found worthy of inspiration was a twizzler on the ground. Butterflies first popped into my mind, so the whole excursion to find inspiration was pretty pointless. My teacher seems to think that inspiration can be found upon command.
