Both by Libba Bray, A Great and Terrible Beauty and its sequel, Rebel Angels have captured my utmost interest. Set in the Victorian Era, the book stars Gemma Doyle, a headstrong and witty girl. In the first book, she is sent to Spence Academy, a prestigious finishing school and remains there in the second. She is blessed with a power to enter the Realms, a place where anything and everything can happen.
Encircled by romance, mystery, and intrigue, Gemma finds three unlikely best friends at her school. She brings them into the realms where they turn objects into butterflies and can sing like famous opera stars. But as the title indicates, this power has its downfalls. Wrath is also present in the Realms.
I recommend these novels to all fantasy lovers and especially those interested in the Victorian Era (like myself). I prefer the second book to the first, for it gives the reader an insight into Victorian life more and is more humorous. In addition, the second is set during Christmas, so there are more balls and events.
