This brilliant novel focuses on a young, poor girl called Sonea. She discovers that she is indeed a Magician - that magic is awaking inside of her, even though she is untrained. Knowing that if she remains untrained, she will destroy herself and others, the refined and sophisticated Magicians set out to find her. Unfortunately, Sonea thinks they are out to kill her, and spends months hiding from the dozens of Magicians looking for her. What she does not know is that only a few genuinly want to help her- others are persuing political goals. When she almost kills herself with her uncontrollable powers, she is caught and taken to the Guild, where she lives with a kindly Magician. She wants to learn Control and leave, but others are planning to make her stay. Sonea finds herself stuck in the middle of her own morals, laws, friendships, intrigues and lies, not knowing whom to trust and whom to believe. Spellbinding (pardon the pun) locations range from the slums to the luxurious houses of the Magicians, and you'll find yourself drawn into this complicated, twisted and yet oddly beautiful world....
9 1/2 out of 10 (Becuase I hate waiting for the second book!)

Hmm, I'll have to check that out. It doesn't get much better than a girl who has to deal with her magic powers.
